One of the first project tasks was to gather available information regarding the Gorringe Seamount. Part of this information was used to build a Geographic Information Systems that allowed, among other things, to calculate a hypsometric curve that will be used to quantify the rocky bottom area within the euphotic zone.
These response curves and surfaces will be used to predict algal production over daily, monthly and yearly time scales within a mathematical model that is under development.
